And the restaurant in question? Opera Tavern - just opposite the Drury Lane theatre in Covent Garden.
The restaurant is split over two storeys, the street level bar with an open grill and upstairs - the slightly 'less charming' and more formal dining area.
We each began with a simple aperitif ... an Aperol Spritz and a White Peach Martini.
With a bottle of cold, crisp white wine - naturally!
We started off with a few light dishes...
A tangy salad of Roasted Beetroot with Radish and Cumin Dressing.
The main event most definitely has to be the well renowned mini Iberico pork and foie gras burger - which has made multiple appearances on many of London's best burger polls.
They certainly lived up to expectation - so much so we ordered another round!!
You have to be very careful though here at Opera Tavern, it is easy to run up a big tab as portions are dainty - yet, there are so many great dishes on offer.
So after a few more glasses of wine we decided to head to Gelupo, an Italian ice-cream parlour in Soho - known for its unique flavour combinations. Open til late, Gelupo is a great way to finish of a warm summer's evening. My flavours of choice was raspberry sambuca and black forest. Adam had mint stracciatella.
With a belly full of food and a head full of booze it was time to head home.
